If a system glitch has temporarily messed up your file, it can be saved if you follow the steps below. Print out this message to keep it next to you while you are following the steps. (all instructions are to be typed in - without the quotes): From the CCN Homepage, type 'g files' to get to your files directory. 1. Highlight the messed-up file and press 'enter' to view it. 2. Press the backslash key ( \ ) to view the source code of the file. 3. Press 'p' and 'enter' to print the file to your account. When the file name appears at the bottom of the screen, use the backspace key to delete the name given and use a name like 'test.html' instead. Press 'enter' to save the new file name. 4. Press the left arrow key to return to files directory. 5. Move your cursor to 'test.html' and press 'enter' to view this new file. 6. Press 'e' to edit 'test.html'. 7. Use ^K (Control-K) to delete each line that you do not want to keep. 8. Save this file as you normally would by pressing ^x (for exit), 'y' (for yes, save this file) and 'enter' (to complete the function). 9. Press the left arrow key to return to files directory. 10. Delete the messed up file (not 'test.html') by pressing 'r' (for remove file) and 'y' (for yes). 11. Move the cursor to highlight 'test.html' and press 'm' (for modify) and 'n' (for name) and give 'test.html' the same name as the messed up file. 12. Press 'enter' to view this new file. If it looks messed up, press ^r (Control-R) to 'reload the document'. Your file has now been repaired.
